This page relates ‘Nineteen and Twenty Tattvas of Samkhya philosophy� of the study of Samkhya thought and philosophy as reflected in the Shanti-Parva of the Mahabharata. Samkhya represents one of the six orthodox schools of Indian Philosophy and primarily deals with metaphysical knowledge and explains the Universe without the need to introduce God. The Mahabharata is an ancient Sanskrit epic which includes many Sankhya theories while expounding twenty-five principles.

Nineteen and Twenty Tattvas of Sāṃkhya philosophy

It comes in the 275th chapter in the Śāntiparva The same chapter explains nineteen and twenty tattvas.

첹ś 岹ś cāṣṭau ca ṇāḥ saha śarīriṇ� |
mahān saṃdhārayatyetaccharīra� vāyunā saha ||
ūṣmaṇ� saha viṃśo vā saṃghāta� pāñcabhautika� ||

This body made up of the five principal elements is only a combination. The eighteen attributes with him that own the body and counting stomachic heat numbering twentieth form is known as the combination of the five.
