This essay studies the Navya-Nyaya theory of Paksata within Indian logic by exploring the Paksataprakarana on the Tattvacintamani of Gangesa Upadhyaya and the Didhiti of Raghunata Siromani. The term “paksa� originally meant a subject or proposition but evolved to signify a key logical term, representing the subject of an inference or the locus of inference.

TCD 120 siddhyanutpādes ca. pratyaksikṛte 'pi visaye pakṣatā-
sattvenanumitijananapatti�. idanim jñānīyam iti kṣaṇa-
katipayantarbhavenaiva sisadhayisotpadyate na tu kadācid
jñaniyam iti. tatha cadya tadrsya� sisadhayisaya� sattvenanumity-
anutpade svastanasiddhes tadaviṣayatayā na tām ādāyas ca
pakṣatasattvenanumityapatti�. yadi cadyatana sisadhayisaya
visayo bhavati svastanī siddhis tada tadananuguṇānantaritatvenapy
anutpādakālo viseṣyatam. vastuta� sisādhayisānantaram
siddhyananuguṇānantaritakāla eva sisadhayisayogyatārupa�
sisadhayiṣāpadena vivaksita�. tadvirahasahakrtasiddhyabhavas
Բ岹Բⲹپṇa徱ⲹٲ屹ٰṣaṇa岹ⲹ
sisadhayisayam astīti pakṣatasattvad anumiti�. na caiva madyatana
sisadhayisaya ghatita paksatas ca. tatrodāsīnair bahubhi�
sisadhayisaya antaritatvāt. (TCA: 179, 17 to 182, 3).
Rucidatta also refers Jayadeva's views:
anye tu dvitriksanantaritayam api sisadhayisayam anumiter
anubhūyamanatvat sisadhayisapadena svotpattyuttarakālīna-
svavisayasiddhyanutpadakālaivātra vivaksitah. na caiva madya
sisadhayisayam vyasangadina siddhyanutpade masadyanantaram
pratyaksikṛte 'pi visaye paksatasattvenanumityapattir iti vācyam.
siddhyananugunānantaritatvenapy anutpadakalasya viseṣaṇīyatvāt.
Բ岹Բⲹپṇa徱ⲹٲ屹ٰԲԳٲٲⲹ
sisadhayisayam etad asty eveti tatranumitih. masadyanantaram ca
nanumiti� tatra sisadhayisayah bahubhir udāsīnair antaritatvād
