Essay name: The Navya-Nyaya theory of Paksata (Study)

This essay studies the Navya-Nyaya theory of Paksata within Indian logic by exploring the Paksataprakarana on the Tattvacintamani of Gangesa Upadhyaya and the Didhiti of Raghunata Siromani. The term 鈥減aksa鈥� originally meant a subject or proposition but evolved to signify a key logical term, representing the subject of an inference or the locus of inference.

Tattvac intamanid墨dhitipras膩ri峁嚹�. Bhavananda Siddhantav盲gisa
wrote the Tattvacintamanid墨dhitiprakasa. 6 Jagad墨sa wrote the
J膩dad墨s墨.7 Gad膩dhara wrote the G膩d膩dhar墨, 8
and so on and so
forth. And many logicians were influenced by Raghunata' D墨dhiti.
Mathuranatha wrote a commentary on the Tattvacintamani directly,
but we can see many quotations from the D墨dhiti and we can read
about Raghunatha's view in Mathuranatha's Tattvacintamani-
9 rahasya. The same instance is seen in the Kan膩datippa峁嚹� of
10 Kan膩da Tarkav膩gisa. And the discusions of Visvanatha's Nyaya-
siddhantamuktavali are almost all from the D墨dhiti. We can also
see the influence of Raghunatha on the schools other than the
Nyaya school. Gaga Bhatta

from Raghunatha's Didhiti and his arguments

These facts necessitate further study of the remaining
portions of Didhiti.
