This essay studies in English the Kausika Sutra鈥攁n important accessory text of the Atharvaveda. The Kausikasutra primarily deals with medicinal and Abhicara practices alongside Grihyasutras themes. Being part of the Saunakiya school, it is considered the earliest and most essential among the five Sutra works, influencing subsequent texts.

Samsthita homas
The eight-versed hymn yadadya tv膩 prayati... (AV 7.97)
is used at the time of Samsthita homas. At the end of the
Samsthitahoma, 膩jy膩huti is given with caturg峁沨墨ta, reciting
the last verse of the hymn manasaspate... (AV 7.97).
Distribution of Barhis to each Deity
The Vedistara峁嘺darbhas are taken and are thrice dipped
at the roots, middle parts and points in the remnants of
ghee reciting p峁泃hivyai tv膩, antarik峁ya tva and dive tva.
Reciting sam barhiraktam... (AV 7.98.1) the wetted blade of
grass is distributed to the deity concerned.
Samsr膩va峁嘺, Vi峁ａ箛ukrama and other rites upto Dak峁峁嚹�
Reciting sa峁僺ravabhag膩岣�... (AVP 20.34.2) the Samsr膩va峁嘺
homa is done. Uttering Sruvo'si gh峁泃膩danisita岣�... (K膩峁環akas
31.14) the Sruva is placed with its danda facing east on the
raised platform.
With the recitation of vimu帽c膩mi brahma峁嚹� j膩tavedasa峁�...
(AVP 13.10.1) laying of fuel on the fire is done. Reciting
edho'si... (AV 7.89.4) and Samidasi, a second and third
laying of fuel on the fire is done.
