PREFACE
In the course of the preparation of the present thesis, I have

to take this opportunity to thank them. The authorities of the
Poona University made it possible for me to put up at the University
ladies' hostel while I was using the library of the Centre of
Advanced studies in Sanskrit, Poona University, library of the
