7.9. Hala-pravartana: Ploughing

The grhyasutras paraskara, kausika, asvalayana, Sankhayana, kausitaka etc. deal with the topic of hala-pravartanam or 23 1 ceremonies of ploughing. The parasara and Brhat-parasara smrtis also refer to some such rites, related with agriculture. The present text also contains (458-468) the description of the rite of yoking the plough, which is a sacrament specially connected with vaisya & farming.
