It is one of the seven
kulacalas of the world (19.3), (27.20). The rivers Narmada,
Surama, Tapf, Vena, Vaitarani, Sinivali, Toya, Durga and
Antahsila emerge from it (19.3), (27.33,34). It consists of
many hills (47.9), (54.10), (64.9), (65.38). Between
Himalaya and Vindhya, there are six rivers (70.22). To the
south of the mountain Vindhya are the rivers Godavari, Bhima-
rathi, Tungabhadra, Venika, Tapi and Payosni (70.33), (89.29).
It is surrounded by 100 peaks (118.2-4). The mountain Sahya
is on the southern side of Vindhya (161.2,66). The southern
side of the mountain Vindhya is considered to be very holy
(161.2,3).. The Papapramocanatirtha is situated on this
mountain (227.45)..
