Patanjala-yogasutra-bhashya-vivarana gives ample importance to practical aspect. For example, while explaining the nine types of yogins, various means 278
etc., there is an advice to the aspirants to take the fastest means to attain the goal. As an example, Patanjala-yogasutra-bhashya-vivarana states that a race winning 38 athlete is the one who runs the fastest. At the same time, Vivaranakara does not underestimate other practitioners of Yoga who are not so intensive. Even those yogins who are progressing at a very slow pace can be enthused by lifting them up from their depression, by indicating that the desired goal is attainable. Otherwise, because of the anxiety that arises due to fatigue from 39 extreme effort, the yogins may lose heart. This clearly indicates that Vivaranakara is a Yogic teacher who knows each and every stage of Yogic practice. In another context explaining the outcomes of samyama, Vyasa-bhashya elucidates some additional information about the 40 omens, which are related to the signs of death. Vivaranakara does not give much importance to these omens and he omits most of the commentary without any explanation. Even though other sub-commentators have a different view 42 Patanjala-yogasutra-bhashya-vivarana, considers eight limbs of Yoga as only one of the means to attain vivekakhyati.
