Cosmology (in Yoga)
Vivaranakara indirectly mentions the creation of the universe. Everything is made up of the five elements called pancabhutas viz., ether (akasa), wind (vayu), fire (agni), water (ap) and earth (bhumi). The creation is a gradual process from 39 ether to earth, one by one. Ether comes into being from the subtle element of sound. Wind comes into being characterised by sound and touch from the subtle element of touch. Fire comes into being characterised by sound, touch and colour from the subtle element of colour. Water comes into being characterised by sound, touch, colour and taste from the subtle element of taste. Likewise, earth comes into being characterised by sound, touch, colour, taste and smell from the subtle element of smell.
