(MA峁凨A峁咥). A sage

General information.

He was born to V膩yubhagav膩n of his wife Sukanyak膩. (艢濒辞办补. 58, Chapter 38, 艢补濒测补 Parva).

痴腻尘补苍补 笔耻谤腻峁嘺, 38th Chapter states that Ma峁卥a峁嘺 was one of the spiritual sons of Ka艣yapapraj膩pati.

Juice of potherb flows from finger.

The sage was living in Saptas膩rasvatat墨rtha and one day by accident his thumb was cut off from his hand by the sharp edge of 碍耻艣补 grass. But instead of blood, the juice of potherb began to flow from the thumb and the sage, overjoyed at this strange phenomenon, started dancing. Along with Ma峁卥a峁嘺 the earth and the sky also started dancing and the dancing showed no signs of stopping. 艢颈惫补 then appeared before Ma峁卥a峁嘺 and asked him the cause of his non-stop dancing. 艢颈惫补 was in disguise and Ma峁卥a峁嘺 did not recognise the new-comer and the sage told him about the strange phenomenon. As they were talking 艢颈惫补 touched the thumb of the sage with his little finger and lo! the flow from the finger changed from pot-herb juice to sugar-candy juice. 痴腻尘补苍补 笔耻谤腻峁嘺 states that it was ashes which flowed from the finger. The hermit was ashamed. He understood that the guest was 艢颈惫补 and he fell at his feet. 艢颈惫补 blessed the hermit and granted him boons.

Ma峁卥a峁嘺 falls in love with 厂补谤补蝉惫补迟墨 Dev墨.

One day 厂补谤补蝉惫补迟墨dev墨 came to the place of his residence in the guise of a very attractive woman. Ma峁卥a峁嘺 had seminal emission on seeing her and the semen fell on the surface of the water. The sage stored the water with semen in a pot and soon seven sons were born from it. They all became sages named 痴腻测耻惫别驳补, V膩yubala, V膩yuh膩, V膩yuma峁囜笉ala, V膩yujv膩la, V膩yuretas and V膩yucakra. Birth of Kadal墨garbh膩.

Besides the seven sons Ma峁卥a峁嘺 got a daughter named Kadal墨garbh膩. 惭别苍补办腻 was her mother. (See under Kadal墨garbh膩).

Ma峁卥a峁嘺 diverts the river 厂补谤补蝉惫补迟墨.

It was sage Ma峁卥a峁嘺 who invoked the river 厂补谤补蝉惫补迟墨 and made it flow through 碍耻谤耻办峁�e迟谤补. Chapter 38, 痴腻尘补苍补 笔耻谤腻峁嘺).
