Story of 碍腻濒颈测补
Birth.
碍补艣测补辫补, grandson of 叠谤补丑尘腻 and son of 惭补谤墨肠颈 begot of his wife 碍补诲谤奴 powerful 苍腻驳补蝉 like 艢别峁, 础颈谤腻惫补迟补, 罢补办峁办补, 碍腻谤办辞峁璦办补, 碍腻濒颈测补, 惭补峁噄苍腻驳补, Pur膩峁嘺n膩ga etc. and from them were born all kinds of 苍腻驳补蝉 on earth. (膧di Parva, Chapter 35). 碍腻濒颈测补 possessed one thousand heads. (叠丑腻驳补惫补迟补, 10th Skandha).
碍腻濒颈测补 taok his abode in 碍腻濒颈苍诲墨.
痴颈苍补迟腻 and 碍补诲谤奴 were wives of 碍补艣测补辫补. The former was the mother of 骋补谤耻岣峚 and the latter of the 苍腻驳补蝉. In a wager 痴颈苍补迟腻 was defeated and had to become the slave of 碍补诲谤奴. 骋补谤耻岣峚 brought 础尘峁泃补 from Devaloka and redeemed his mother from slavery. Yet 骋补谤耻岣峚 and the 苍腻驳补蝉 continued to be enemies, 骋补谤耻岣峚 killing and eating 苍腻驳补蝉 whenever he got a chance for it. At last the 苍腻驳补蝉 entered into an understanding with 骋补谤耻岣峚 agreeing to give him the havis (offering) which they got on certain days, and thus 骋补谤耻岣峚 stopped eating the 苍腻驳补蝉. But 碍腻濒颈测补 did not subscribe to the above agreement; he treated 骋补谤耻岣峚 with contempt. But, in an encounter with 骋补谤耻岣峚 碍腻濒颈测补 was put to so much of hardships that he, along with his family, shifted his residence to a particular sector in 碍腻濒颈苍诲墨.
Admission denied to 骋补谤耻岣峚.
Owing to the curse of a sage called Saubhari, who was performing penance on the banks of 碍腻濒颈苍诲墨, that 骋补谤耻岣峚 would die brokenheaded if he entered 碍腻濒颈苍诲墨, it was a prohibited area to 骋补谤耻岣峚.
Suppression of 碍腻濒颈测补.
Owing to the virulent poison of 碍腻濒颈测补 the waters of 碍腻濒颈苍诲墨 became poisonous and the trees on its banks dried up. Once, while 碍峁涐梗峁嘺 and his companions, the 骋辞辫腻濒补蝉 came to the banks of the river grazing their cows. The 骋辞辫腻濒补蝉 drank water from the river and fell down dead. Then 碍峁涐梗峁嘺 jumped into the river from the top of a tree on its bank and danced upon the hoods of 碍腻濒颈测补 who had rushed to attack him. 碍腻濒颈测补 vomited blood and saluted 碍峁涐梗峁嘺. His wives and children also saluted the Lord. 碍峁涐梗峁嘺 sent all of them away to 搁补尘补峁嘺办补 island assuring 碍腻濒颈测补 that 骋补谤耻岣峚 would not attack him on seeing the marks of his (碍峁涐梗峁嘺's) feet on 碍腻濒颈测补. Thus did 碍腻濒颈测补 and his family shift their residence to 搁补尘补峁嘺办补 island. (叠丑腻驳补惫补迟补, 10th Skandha).
