Story of ٲṇḍ
A king who was the son of ṣv. It is mentioned in Ѳٲ, Ādi Parva, Chapter 67, Stanza 45, that this King was the rebirth of Krodhahantā, an asura.
Birth.
ṣv had one hundred sons. Of them վܰṣi, Nimi and ٲṇḍ were famous. ٲṇḍ became a famous archer when he grew up. In the ṇḍ ʳܰṇa mention is made that this King ٲṇḍ took part in the Devāsura battle (Battle between the gods and the demons) and killed several thousand asuras (demons).
Administration.
The king ṣv gave his son ٲṇḍ the country between the mountains ᾱⲹ and Vindhya and anointed him the King of that country. ٲṇḍ built a capital city known as Madhumatta and began to rule the country. He had an army of 䲹ٳܰṅg (four parts, elephant, chariot, horse and infantry). The hermit ŚԲ was the priest of King ٲṇḍ. (Uttararāmāyaṇa).
The origin of ٲṇḍkāranya (the forest of ٲṇḍka).
ٲṇḍ once raped Arā, the daughter of hermit Śܰ, who had been doing penance in a forest in the middle of the country of ٲṇḍ. Śܰ the hermit got angry and destroyed the country of ٲṇḍ by a shower of fire. From that day onwards that country was known as ٲṇḍkāraṇya. (For further information see under Arā).
