k膩makrodhau tu sa峁儁amya tata岣� siddhi峁� niyacchati || 11 ||The man who keeps this 鈥榯riple control鈥� in regard to all creatures, and rightly subdues desire and anger, thereby attains success.鈥�(11)
Medh膩tithi鈥檚 commentary (manubh膩峁a):
鈥�罢谤颈诲补峁囜笉补尘鈥� is an aggregate of the three controls; the feminine form of which is precluded by reason of the term 鈥�诲补峁囜笉补鈥� occurring in the 鈥�辫腻迟谤腻诲颈鈥� group [and hence falling under the exception to the Vartika on P膩nini, 2.4.17].
He who 鈥�keeps鈥欌�攆ixes up鈥斺��this triple control鈥欌�攊n his heart,鈥斺��in regard to all creatures鈥欌�� not harming any, by any of the three kinds of action鈥欌�攁nd 鈥�rightly鈥欌赌攑谤辞辫别谤濒测鈥斺赌�subdues desire awl anger,鈥欌赌斺赌�thereby attains鈥欌赌攐产迟补颈苍蝉鈥斺赌�success鈥欌�攊n the form of Liberation.
This verse serves as introductory to the treatment of the philosophy of the Self; leading up, as it does, to such questions as鈥斺�榯o whom does this success belong?鈥� 鈥榳ho is the real experiencer of the results of actions?鈥攕ince the body is found to end in ashes, and we do not see anything else of the man.鈥� It is thus that the text proceeds to describe the person who is the actual performer of all acts, righteous and unrighteous.鈥�(11)
