Medh膩tithi鈥檚 commentary (manubh膩峁a):
鈥�Pure鈥欌赌攂y making due use of clay and water, and also by keeping his senses under control.
鈥�Attendant upon his superiors鈥欌赌�i.e., the three higher castes.
鈥�Gentle in speech鈥欌赌�i.e., not harsh and argumentative in speech, through his knowledge of such sciences as Logic and the like.
He attains a 鈥�higher caste鈥欌赌攕uch as the 叠谤腻丑尘补峁嘺 and the rest.
The motive has been clearly stated.
The 鈥�depending upon the 叠谤腻丑尘补峁嘺鈥� has been repeated with a view to indicate that this is a duty also for one who-may be serving other people; so long as it is not compatible with this latter.鈥�(335)
