Medh膩tithi鈥檚 commentary (尘补苍耻产丑腻峁补):
鈥�Exertion without a purpose鈥欌赌�i.e., that which does not bring any benefit, preceptible or imperceptible; e.g., hankering after news of other countries, and so forth.
鈥�础帽箩补濒颈鈥� is joined palms;鈥攚ith this 鈥�he shall not drink water.鈥� Since water is mentioned by name, the prohibition does not apply to milk and other liquids.
鈥�Articles of food in his lap鈥欌赌攆ried grains and cakes, &c., he shall not eat, while they are on his thighs. The term 鈥�articles of food鈥� extends the prohibition to fruits also. As for rice, the mixture of fried Hour with water and such other semi-liquid things as cannot be eaten without mixing water,鈥攖here is no possibility of their being eaten on the lap.
鈥�Curiosity鈥欌赌攊s over-eagerness for information about things, without any purpose.
