Medh膩tithi鈥檚 commentary (尘补苍耻产丑腻峁补):
鈥�Barren soil鈥欌�擴nproductive ground. that plot of land is called 鈥榖arren鈥� on which if seed is sown, it does not sprout; there the 鈥�sower reaps no harvest.鈥�
鈥�Even so,鈥� 鈥�to the person ignorant of die Veda鈥欌赌斺赌�having given the offerings made to gods and ancestors,鈥斺��the giver obtains no reward.鈥�
The term 鈥�补苍峁沜别鈥� is with the Locative ending; and the term 鈥�峁沰鈥� stands for the Veda in general.鈥�(142)

惭补丑腻产丑腻谤补迟补 (Anu艣膩sana, 90.45).鈥斺�楢s seed sown in barren soil does not germinate and the sower does not reap even a part of the seed, so also the 艢r膩ddha partaken of by undeserving persons confers no benefits either here or elsewhere.鈥�
