|| iti caturthaá¸� khaṇá¸aá¸� ||7. And whatever else was not properly known they understood was the combination of those three deities [fire, water, and earth]. O Somya, now learn from me how these three deities enter into a person and become threefold.
Word-for-word explanation:
Yat u avijñÄtam iva abhÅ«t iti, and whatever they saw that was not properly known; ²õ²¹³¾Äå²õ²¹á¸� iti, the combination; etÄsÄm eva devatÄnÄm, of these deities [fire, water, and earth]; tat vidÄñcakruá¸�, that they knew; somya, my son; ²â²¹³Ù³óÄå, as to how; imÄá¸� khalu nu, these very; tisraá¸� devatÄá¸�, three deities; ±è³Ü°ù³Üá¹£a³¾, a living being; ±è°ùÄå±è²â²¹, entering [as food]; ³Ù°ù¾±±¹á¹›t ³Ù°ù¾±±¹á¹›t ekaikÄ bhavati, each one becomes threefold; tat me vijÄnÄ«hi iti, learn that from me. Iti caturthaá¸� khaṇá¸aá¸�, here ends the fourth section.
Commentary:
Previously the scholars did not know these deities—the three elements—separately. They began to understand better when they saw the elements working in living beings.
