The Brihad-bhagavatamrita Verse 2.2.146, English translation, including commentary (Dig-darshini-tika): an important Vaishnava text dealing with the importance of devotional service. The Brihad-bhagavatamrita, although an indepent Sanskrit work, covers the essential teachings of the Shrimad Bhagavatam (Bhagavata-purana). इत्थम् अह्नां कतिपये प्रयात� प्रातर� एकदा �
कौतुकाद् ब्रह्मणा स्पृष्टः फे�-पुञ्जोऽसुरोऽभवत् � १४� �ittham ahnā� katipaye ٱ prātar 첹 |
kautukād ṇ� ṛṣṭa� pheṇa-puñjo'suro'bhavat || 146 ||ittham–tܲ; 峾–d; katipaye–sdz; ٱ; ٲ�–in the early morning; 첹–one day; 첹ܳٳܰ–out of curiosity; ṇ�–by ; ṛṣṭa�–tdzܳ; ṇa-ñᲹ�–a mass of foam; ܰ�–a demon; abhavat–it became.
In this way, a few days of elapsed. One day at dawn Śrī , out of curiosity, touched a mass of foam from which an enormous demon manifested.

Now, Śrī Gopa-ܳ chanted his mantra with great resolve (ṅk貹), and by the power of this chanting, he obtained the post of , the topmost position in the universe. To explain how this came about, Gopa-ܳ speaks two verses, beginning here with ittham. He says, “And so passed several of ’s days. Then early one morning, Śrī touched a mass of foam out of curiosity, and an incredible thing happened! From that foam arose a gargantuan demon, terrifying like the masses of foam on the ocean of cosmic annihilation, and fearsomely strong.�
