The Brihad-bhagavatamrita Verse 2.1.159, English translation, including commentary (Dig-darshini-tika): an important Vaishnava text dealing with the importance of devotional service. The Brihad-bhagavatamrita, although an indepent Sanskrit work, covers the essential teachings of the Shrimad Bhagavatam (Bhagavata-purana). This is verse 2.1.159 contained in Chapter 1—Vairagya (renunciation)—of Part two (prathama-khanda).

Sanskrit text, Unicode transliteration, Word-for-word and English translation of verse 2.1.159:

दारु-ब्रह्म जगन्नाथो भगवान् पुरुषोत्तम
क्षेत्रे नीलाचल क्षरर्-नव-तीरे विराजत १५

-󳾲 jagannātho 󲹲 puruṣottame |
kṣetre nīlācale kṣarar-nava-ī Ჹٱ || 159 ||

-󳾲–the Absolute Truth in the form of wood; Ჹ-ٳ–Lord of all the worlds; 󲹲–full in six opulences; puruṣottame kṣetre–in the land of the Supreme Person; ī-–upon the blue mountain; ṣār-ṇa–of the salt ocean; ī–on the shore; Ჹٱ–is radiantly present.

“In Śī ʳܰṣoٳٲ-ṣeٰ, on the blue mountain known as ī峦, on the shore of the salt ocean, the Supreme Lord of the universe Śī Բٳ is radiantly present as -󳾲, the Absolute Truth in the form of wood.

Commentary: Dig-darśinī-ṭīkā with Bhāvānuvāda

(By Śīla Sanātana Gosvāmī himself including a deep purport of that commentary)

Śī Gopa-ܳ says, “Although the Supreme Lord is 󳾲-ū貹, the embodiment of transcendence, He nevertheless appears as a Deity of wood in order to dispel the endless suffering of material existence. That selfsame Supreme Personality, who is famous by the name of Śī Բٳ, resides on the shore of the salt ocean at ī峦 in ʳܰṣoٳٲ-ṣeٰ.

It is stated in Padma ʳܰṇa:

समुद्रस्योत्तर तीरे आस्त श्री-पुरुषोत्तम
पूर्णानन्द-मय ब्रह्म दारु-व्या-शरी-भृत्

samudrasyottare ī āste śrī-puruṣottame
pūrṇānanda-maya brahma -vyāja-śarīra-bhṛt

On the northern shore of the ocean at Śī ʳܰṣoٳٲ-ṣeٰ resides the fully blissful Supreme Personality of Godhead, who has deceptively assumed a wooden form (-brahma).

The ṛh-ṣṇ ʳܰṇa also states:

नीलाद्रौ चोत्कल देशे क्षेत्रे श्री-पुरुषोत्तम
दारुण्य् आस्त चिद्-आनन्दो जगन्नाथाख्-मूर्तिना

nīlādrau cotkale deśe kṣetre śrī-puruṣottame
ṇy āste cid-ānando jagannāthākhya-mūrtinā

In the country of Utkala, at ī峦, which is in Śī ʳܰṣoٳٲ-ṣeٰ, the divine Deity of Բٳ, who is the embodiment of knowledge and bliss, is present in wooden form.
