by Śrī Śrīmad Bhaktivedānta Nārāyana Gosvāmī Mahārāja | 2005 | 440,179 words | ISBN-13: 9781935428329

The Brihad-bhagavatamrita Verse 1.7.80, English translation, including commentary (Dig-darshini-tika): an important Vaishnava text dealing with the importance of devotional service. The Brihad-bhagavatamrita, although an indepent Sanskrit work, covers the essential teachings of the Shrimad Bhagavatam (Bhagavata-purana). This is verse 1.7.80 contained in Chapter 7—Purna (pinnacle of excellent devotees)—of Part one (prathama-khanda).

Sanskrit text, Unicode transliteration, Word-for-word and English translation of verse 1.7.80:

ताभ्या स्ने-भरेणास्य पालन तत तद ईहितम्
अतोऽस्यैतादृशो भावस तयोर युक्तो हि मे प्रियः ८०

sneha-bhareṇāsya pālana tat tad īhitam |
ato'syaitādṛśo bhāvas tayor yukto hi me priya || 80 ||

Just as Śrī Nanda and Śrī ۲śǻ affectionately raised Śrī ṛṣṇa, that particular affectionate mood of Śrī ṛṣṇ towards them is certainly mutual. I also love their sentiment.

Commentary: Dig-darśinī-ṭīkā with Bhāvānuvāda

(By Śrīla Sanātana Gosvāmī himself including a deep purport of that commentary)

The symptoms of the superiority of the glories of Śrī Nanda and Śrī ۲śǻ are clearly expressed in the verses beginning with . Śrī Nanda and Yasodā affectionately brought up Śrī ṛṣṇa and that account of indescribable nourishment and protection is celebrated everywhere. Therefore, that sentiment of Śrī ṛṣṇa towards Śrī Nanda and ۲śǻ is certainly mutual. In other words, whatever I personally experienced, that is also appropriate and I love this sentiment as well; otherwise, Śrī ṛṣṇa would be guilty of ingratitude.
