The Brihad-bhagavatamrita Verse 1.5.66, English translation, including commentary (Dig-darshini-tika): an important Vaishnava text dealing with the importance of devotional service. भीष्�-द्रोणादि-हननान् निवृत्तं मा� प्रवर्तयन् �
मह�-ज्ञानि-वर� कृष्णो यत� किञ्चिद् उपदिष्टवान� � ६६ �īṣm-droṇādi-hananān nivṛtta� mā� pravartayan |
mahā-jñāni-vara� kṛṣṇo yat kiñcid upadiṣṭavān || 66 ||When I withdrew from killing my superiors such as Bhīṣma and ٰṇa, at that time, Śrī ṛṣṇa, the best among the wise, gave me instructions to inspire me to do such work.

If the question arises whether there is no mercy of Śrī ṛṣṇa upon you, then why did he instruct -ī, the essence of all Upaniṣads? In reply to this, Śrīman Arjuna is narrating the five ślokas beginning with īṣm. Simply to inspire me to kill Bhīṣma and ٰṇa, Śrī ṛṣṇa gave some advice.
