A man in Vaisnava Sthana holding a branch of a tree in his left hand and sword in his right hand with which he has chopped it off. In Vaisnava Sthana鈥撯�淭he feet are kept two and a half Talas apart, one of them in natural posture and the other is obliquely placed with the toes turning towards the sides.鈥�

Kumbakonam is considered as one of the holiest places in Tamil Nadu and is known for its temples and Mathas (monasteries which were centres of Brahmanical learning). These photographs depict the connection between the sculptures in the temples and Natya Shastra and related texts dealing with iconography.
