Theravada (major branch of Buddhism)
: Pali Kanon: Pali Proper NamesA village granted by Mahanaga to the Mahavihara (Cv.xli.96). It was once the headquarters of Dathasiva (Cv.xliv.125). It evidently contained a tank which was restored by Parakkamabahu I (Cv.lxviii.47).
Theravāda is a major branch of Buddhism having the the Pali canon (tipitaka) as their canonical literature, which includes the vinaya-pitaka (monastic rules), the sutta-pitaka (Buddhist sermons) and the abhidhamma-pitaka (philosophy and psychology).
