: Ancient Buddhist Texts: Geography of Early BuddhismTanasuli (啶むえ啶膏啶侧た) or Tanasuliya is the name of an ancient locality situated in Majjhimadesa (Middle Country) of ancient India, as recorded in the P膩li Buddhist texts (detailing the geography of ancient India as it was known in to Early Buddhism).鈥擨t is evident from the record of Kh膩ravela鈥檚 fifth regnal year (H膩thigumph膩 inscription) that Kali峁単anagara the capital of Kh膩ravela鈥檚 kingdom of Kali峁単a was not far from Tanasuliya or Tanasuli road wherefrom a canal opened by King Nanda was led by extension into the city of K膩li峁単a. Dr. Barua says in his book on Old Br膩hm墨 Inscriptions that Tanasuliya or Tanasula is a name which stands in contrast with Mah膩suliya or Mah膩suli, tan or tanu being the opposite form of Mah膩 or Maha.
