Dharmashastra (religious law)

: Sacred Texts: The Grihya Sutras, Part 2 (SBE30)

Taddharma (तद्धर्) refers to “having the same qualities, according to the Ā貹ٲ-ⲹñ-貹ṣ-ūٰ.—“If what is prescribed is absent, a substitute [viz., Pratinidhi] is to be taken according to similarity. [...] The substitute should take the nature of that for which it is substituted. Commentary: Taddharma refers to “having the same qualities. If, for instance, ī has been substituted for ī, it should be treated as if it were ī. The name ī should remain, and should not be replaced by ī, just as Soma, if replaced by ūپ, is still called Soma.
