Natyashastra (theatrics and dramaturgy)
: Shodhganga: The significance of the m奴la-beras (natya)厂腻迟迟惫颈办腻产丑颈苍补测补 (啶膏ぞ啶む啶む啶掂た啶曕ぞ啶た啶ㄠく) refers to the 鈥渁rt of expression鈥 (through acting out the different states of mind) and represents one of the four kinds of abhinaya (鈥渉istrionic representation鈥) as used within the classical tradition of Indian dance and performance, also known as Bharatanatyam.鈥擳he word 蝉腻迟迟惫颈办补 is derived from the word sattva which means 鈥渙riginating in the mind鈥. 厂腻迟迟惫颈办腻产丑颈苍补测补 is the art of expression through acting out the different states of mind. It is also defined as 鈥abhinaya involving 蝉腻迟迟惫颈办补-产丑腻惫补s鈥. Through mental concentration sattva is evolved. Thus, the mental involvement of the performer is brought out before the performer. The face reflects the mind of the performer.
In chapter 7 verse 145 of N膩峁瓂a艣膩stra, Unni says that not only the face, but also the whole body exhibits the 蝉腻迟迟惫颈办补-产丑腻惫补s or 鈥渢he mental or internal feelings鈥. This abhinaya is said to be the most difficult one, yet it is the most important mode of dramatic representation. 厂腻迟迟惫颈办腻产丑颈苍补测补 and 腻峁単颈办腻产丑颈苍补测补 always go together, that is, the mental emotions of the character are expressed through the physical actions. The N膩峁瓂a艣膩stra chapter 7, titled Bh膩vavyanjaka (the exposition of emotion), explains 蝉腻迟迟惫颈办腻产丑颈苍补测补 in detail. 厂腻迟迟惫颈办腻产丑颈苍补测补 includes 产丑腻惫补 and rasa.

Natyashastra (啶ㄠぞ啶熰啶ざ啶距じ啷嵿い啷嵿ぐ, 苍腻峁瓂补艣腻蝉迟谤补) refers to both the ancient Indian tradition (shastra) of performing arts, (natya鈥攖heatrics, drama, dance, music), as well as the name of a Sanskrit work dealing with these subjects. It also teaches the rules for composing Dramatic plays (nataka), construction and performance of Theater, and Poetic works (kavya).
