Source: Wisdom Library: JainismRucakavarasamudra (啶班啶氞啶掂ぐ啶膏ぎ啷佮う啷嵿ぐ) is the name of an ocean (samudra) surrouding the continent of Rucakavara诲惫墨辫补 (or simply Rucakavara), according to Jain cosmology. The Rucakavarasamudra and Rucakavara诲惫墨辫补 are situated in the middle-world (madhyaloka), which contains innumerable concentric continents (诲惫墨辫补), each surrounded by their own ocean. The middle-world, as opposed to the upper-world (adhaloka) and the lower-world (奴谤诲丑惫补濒辞办补), is the only world where humans can be born. Rucakavarasamudra is also known as plainly Rucakavara.
Rucakavarasamudra is recorded in ancient Jaina canonical texts dealing with cosmology and geography of the universe. Examples of such texts are the Sa峁僩raha峁嚹玶atna in the 艢vet膩mbara tradition or the Tiloyapannatti and the Trilokas膩ra in the Digambara tradition.
