Ramyakhanda (रमà¥à¤¯à¤–नà¥à¤¦) refers to one of the seven regions (²Ô²¹±¹²¹°ì³ó²¹á¹‡á¸²¹) situated within ´³²¹³¾²úÅ«»å±¹Ä«±è²¹, according to ParÄkhyatantra 5.61. It is also known as plainly Ramya. ´³²¹³¾²úÅ«»å±¹Ä«±è²¹ is one of the seven continents situated within the world of the earth (±èá¹›t³ó¾±±¹Ä«). These continents are located above the seven ±èÄå³ÙÄå±ô²¹²õ and may contain even more sub-continents within them, are round in shape, and are encircled within seven concentric oceans.

According to the ParÄkhyatantra, “it seems that when the moon beheld there the lovely Apsaras Urvaśī he proclaimed ‘She is lovelyâ€�, and this landmass is therefore called Ramya after that speechâ€�.

In the middle of these nine regions (e.g., ¸é²¹³¾²â²¹°ì³ó²¹á¹‡á¸²¹) is situated the golden mountain named Meru which rises above the surface of the earth by 84,000 yojanas while it penetrates the circle of the earth to a depth of sixteen yojanas.

The ParÄkhyatantra is an old Åšaiva-siddhÄnta tantra dating from before the 10th century.
