India history and geography
: Project Gutenberg: Castes and Tribes of Southern India, Volume 1Poduval refers to one of the castes recognised as included in the generic name of Ambalavasi: a generic name applied to all classes of temple servants in Malabar. There are many sub-divisions of the caste (e.g., Poduval) which are assigned different services in the Hindu temples, such as the preparation of garlands, the sweeping of the floor, the fetching of fire-wood, the carrying of the idols in procession, singing, dancing, and so on.

The history of India traces the identification of countries, villages, towns and other regions of India, as well as mythology, zoology, royal dynasties, rulers, tribes, local festivities and traditions and regional languages. Ancient India enjoyed religious freedom and encourages the path of Dharma, a concept common to Buddhism, Hinduism, and Jainism.
