īⲹ貹 (पानीयप) refers to a measurement of time equaling six asus, according to Śrīpati’s Siddhāntaśekhara.—The time unit pala is occasionally referred to as īⲹ貹 in contexts where it is quite certain that it is a time unit. Thus Āryabhaṭa II speaks of six asus in one īⲹ貹; and Bhaskara II of 3600 īⲹ貹 in a day and night. Probably here it means “a pala that is measured by means of water clock as distinct from pala, the unit of weight.
