Nellaiappar Temple in Tirunelveli, represents a sacred place for the worship of Śiva.—In the Nellaiappar Temple,separate sanctums for the gods and goddesses are seen. The two independent structures of the Nellaiappar and Kantimati temple were linked in AD 1647 by Thiru Vadamalaippa Pillaiyan, a great devotee of Śiva. The tower of Svami Nellaiappar and that of the Amman sannidhi was built by Muluthukanda Rama Pandyan in the 7th century AD. Besides the Amman sannidhi, there is the Ūncal Maṇḍ apa. There is also the Tirukalyana Maṇḍ apa or the thousand-pillared hall. The īٲ in the temple are the pon tāmarai tīrta and karumāri tīrta. The two wonderful ṇḍ貹 are Vasanta Maṇḍ apa and Saṅgili Maṇḍ apa.
