Jalaukāvacaraṇa (leech therapy) is one of the ancient and important parasurgical procedures described in Ayurveda for treatment of various diseases.—Nasal Furunculosis is very well correlated with nasal disease ṇaś in Ayurveda. Though it is only described by Caraka in brief. According to Caraka it is pākavantī-īḍi (suppurated furuncle) caused due to vitiation of ٲ and pitta.
Rakta and pitta are prime doṣas for causing ṇa (nasal furuncle). There is no other doṣa involved in pathogenesis of ṇa except ٲ and pitta. Pitta vitiates rakta which causes suppuration resulting in blockage of ٲ. Due to obstructed path of ٲ-doṣa by suppuration results in throbbing pain at the affected site. Here removing the blockage by Ჹܰ屹ṇa plays vital role in treatment of ṇa.
