: Brill: Śaivism and the Tantric Traditions

Naiṣṭhikī (नैष्ठिकी) is a synonym for Mumukṣu (“liberation seeker), according to the Mṛgendrāgama.—Another early source which distinguishes between the ś󲹰ṇ and ǰ첹󲹰ṇ-īṣ is the Mṛgendra-āgama, which was composed after the Svacchanda-tantra. This scripture maintains the same basic set of categories and organization of initiatory groups, even though it uses slightly different terminology. Thus, instead of referring to initiations for the ܳܰṣu and the ܲܰṣu, the Mṛgendra uses the terms Բṣṭ󾱰ī and 󲹳ܳپī, the former of which is divided into the ṣ and Ծṣ, corresponding to the ī/Ծī distinction, and the latter again into ś󲹰ṇ and ǰ첹󲹰ṇ.
