General definition (in Jainism)
: HereNow4U: CoJS Newsletter Issue 12 March 2017Nathuram Premi (1956: 229) gives a brief history of Malkhed, a village with two ruined Jaina temples, in the Gulbarga District of Karnataka state. Malkhed was the capital of the RÄá¹£á¹rakÅ«á¹a King Kṛṣṇa III in 966 CE. Around this time, the famous (Åšaiva turned) Jaina poet Puá¹£padanta, the author of the Apabhraṃśa Prakrit MahÄpurÄṇa, mentions how this city (MÄnyakheá¹a/ Maṇṇakheá¸a) was looted and burned by the ParamÄra King Siyaka-GurjararÄja in Åšaka 894 (=972 CE).

Jainism is an Indian religion of Dharma whose doctrine revolves around harmlessness (ahimsa) towards every living being. The two major branches (Digambara and Svetambara) of Jainism stimulate self-control (or, shramana, ‘self-reliance) and spiritual development through a path of peace for the soul to progess to the ultimate goal.
