Source: Wisdom Library: KathāsaritsāgaraKuberasarasa (कुबेरसरस) or Kuverasarasa refers to the “lake of Kubera� at Kailāsa, according to in the Kathāsaritsāgara, chapter 51. Accordingly, as Lava and Kuśa offended sage Vālmīki after killing a deer and playing with a ṅg: �... at Sītā’s intercession he appointed for those youths the following expiatory penance: ‘Let this Lava go quickly and bring from the lake of Kuvera golden lotuses, and Ի flowers from his garden, then worship, both of you brothers, this ṅg with those flowers; in this way this crime of those two will be atoned for’�.
The Kathāsaritsāgara (‘ocean of streams of story�), mentioning Kuberasarasa, is a famous Sanskrit epic story revolving around prince Naravāhanadatta and his quest to become the emperor of the (celestial beings). The work is said to have been an adaptation of Guṇāḍhya’s Bṛhatkathā consisting of 100,000 verses, which in turn is part of a larger work containing 700,000 verses.
