: Shodhganga: Temples and cult of Sri Rama in TamilnaduJoshimath (Nandaprayaga) refers to Piruti, one of the 108 divyadesas according to Priyavaccan Pillai’s compendium of the Ramayana based on the Nalayirativviyappirapantam.—The identification of the venue [Piruti] is disputed. Adisankara is said to have established the present temple.

The Purana (पुरा�, purāṇas) refers to Sanskrit literature preserving ancient India’s vast cultural history, including historical legends, religious ceremonies, various arts and sciences. The eighteen mahapuranas total over 400,000 shlokas (metrical couplets) and date to at least several centuries BCE.
