: archive.org: Shiva Purana - English TranslationҾ (गिरिराज्) refers to the “lord of mountains� and is used to describe Himācala (i.e., Himālaya), according to the Śivapurāṇa 2.3.13 (“Śiva-Pārvatī dialogue�).—Accordingly, after Śiva permitted Pārvatī to stay by his side: “[...] Then, the lord of mountains [i.e., ], returned to his city and rejoiced in the company of his wife, the sages and attendants. Śiva mentioned the Yoga of meditation on the great Ātman with His mind freed from obstacles. Pārvatī, along with her maids, continued her daily service to the moon-crested lord, coming and going without any hindrance. [...]�.

The eighteen mahapuranas total over 400,000 shlokas (metrical couplets) and date to at least several centuries BCE.
