(Auto-Translation): The Discourse on Suffering: (a) The monk who perceives the nature of suffering of form and name is able to attain Awakened-ness, having freed himself from attachment, clinging, and dissatisfaction towards those forms and names, as taught by the Blessed One. (b) The monk who knows the fact of suffering and the manifestation and cessation of all phenomena correctly is able to see the pleasures and desires of the senses clearly. Such a seer is no longer caught up in wanting, attachment, longing, or anxiety regarding those pleasures. By understanding this, the one who travels through existence realizes that the desire for attachment, unhappiness, and all karmic actions have become extinguished in reality. Thus, the Blessed One has extensively taught these truths to the monks.

Pali is the language of the Tipiá¹aka, which is the sacred canon of TheravÄda Buddhism and contains much of the Buddha’s speech. Closeley related to Sanskrit, both languages are used interchangeably between religions.
