The Purana (啶啶班ぞ啶�, pur膩峁嘺s) refers to Sanskrit literature preserving ancient India鈥檚 vast cultural history, including historical legends, religious ceremonies, various arts and sciences. The eighteen mahapuranas total over 400,000 shlokas (metrical couplets) and date to at least several centuries BCE.

Source: Wisdom Library: Kath膩sarits膩garaDharmadhvaja (啶оぐ啷嵿ぎ啶о啶掂) is the name of an ancient king from Ujjayin墨, as mentioned in the eleventh story of the 痴别迟腻濒补辫补帽肠补惫颈峁兣沘迟颈 in the Kath膩sarits膩gara, chapter 85. Accordingly, 鈥�... there lived of old in Ujjayin墨 a king of the name of Dharmadhvaja; he had three wives, who were all daughters of kings, and whom he held very dear. The first of them was called Indulekh膩, the second T膩r膩val墨, and the third M峁沢膩峁卥avat墨; and they were all possessed of extraordinary personal charms. And the successful king, who had conquered all his enemies, lived happily, amusing himself with all those three queens鈥�.
The story of Dharmadhvaja is mentioned in the 痴别迟腻濒补辫补帽肠补惫颈峁兣沘迟颈 (twenty-five tales of a 惫别迟腻濒补) which is embedded in the twelfth book of the Kath膩sarits膩gara (鈥榦cean of streams of story鈥�). The main book is a famous Sanskrit epic detailing the exploits of prince Narav膩hanadatta in his quest to become the emperor of the 惫颈诲测腻诲丑补谤补蝉 (celestial beings). The Kath膩-sarit-s膩gara is is explained to be an adaptation of Gu峁嚹佱笉hya鈥檚 B峁沨atkath膩 which consisted of 100,000 verses and in turn forms part of an even larger work containing 700,000 verses.

Sanskrit, also spelled 啶膏啶膏啶曕啶むぎ啷� (蝉补峁僺办峁泃补尘), is an ancient language of India commonly seen as the grandmother of the Indo-European language family (even English!). Closely allied with Prakrit and Pali, Sanskrit is more exhaustive in both grammar and terms and has the most extensive collection of literature in the world, greatly surpassing its sister-languages Greek and Latin.
