: Shodhganga: Elements of Art and Architecture in the Trtiyakhanda of the Visnudharmottarapurana (natya)The Clenched hand is denoted by the Sanskrit term Muṣṭi, whereas Muṣṭihasta refers to one of the twenty-two Single-hand Gestures (in Indian Dramas) (known as ṃyܰٲٲ), according to the Viṣṇudharmottarapurāṇa, an ancient Sanskrit text which (being encyclopedic in nature) deals with a variety of cultural topics such as arts, architecture, music, grammar and astronomy.—The word ṣṭ denotes the clenched hand. According to the Viṣṇudharmottarapurāṇa, in ṣṭ posture, the fingers are bent towards the palm and the thumb is set on them. The ṣṭ-hasta is used in some activities like striking, hard press of the breast, holding sword, strick and spear etc
