Chandas (prosody, study of Sanskrit metres)
: Shodhganga: a concise history of Sanskrit Chanda literatureChhandaḥԳٲbhāskara (छ्हन्दःसिद्धान्तभास्कर) is one of the works composed by Keśava Nanda (C. 1644 C.E.). Keśava starts his work after praising Piṅgala. He says: After bowing down (respectfully) to Piṅgala and consulting the views of Piṅgala, the ChandaḥԳٲbhāskara is composed by me, the son of Vyāsa Sūrajī. This work is an exposition of Chandaśśāstra of Piṅgala and to remove the misconception about the chandas. To justify the name of his text he says it is the Գٲ, compared to a sun (Bhāskara) to remove the darkness (Գٲ) compared with misconception (Գپ).

Chandas (छन्दस्) refers to Sanskrit prosody and represents one of the six Vedangas (auxiliary disciplines belonging to the study of the Vedas). The science of prosody (chandas-shastra) focusses on the study of the poetic meters such as the commonly known twenty-six metres mentioned by Pingalas.
