µþ³ó²¹á¹­á¹­´Ç³Ù±è²¹±ô²¹ (भटà¥à¤Ÿà¥‹à¤¤à¥à¤ªà¤�) or Utpala (from Kashmir) is the name of a 10th-century Indian commentator of VÄrÄha Mihira’s Bá¹›hatsaṃhitÄ and Bá¹›hajjÄtaka.—The Bá¹›hatsaṃhitÄ is a SaṃhitÄ text of Jyotiá¹£a (Indian astrology and astronomy) . SaṃhitÄ is one of three branches of Jyotiá¹£a (SaṃhitÄ has many other meanings outside Jyotiá¹£a). µþ³ó²¹á¹­á¹­´Ç³Ù±è²¹±ô²¹ is known for quoting six verses from SÅ«rya SiddhÄnta which are not found in its extant version. These six verses can be found in the ‘Introductionâ€� by S. Jain to the translation of SÅ«rya SiddhÄnta made by E. Burgess. µþ³ó²¹á¹­á¹­´Ç³Ù±è²¹±ô²¹ is also the author of a commentary on Brahmagupta’s Khaṇá¸akhÄdyaka (7th century). In this, he is a successor of Pá¹›thÅ«daka and a predecessor of Amaraja.
