Any element which tends to detract the poetic composition is a demerit in general terms. In other words, ṣa are the opposites of the ṇālṃk. [...] In the Sāhityadarpaṇa, Viśvanātha says ṣa are five fold. [...] Mammaṭabhaṭṭa says that 貹岹ṣa (or “defects of word�) are of sixteen types [i.e., ṛṣṭaṃśa {ṃśa?} (having predicate factor not discriminated)].
