: Shodhganga: A study of Nyāya-vaiśeṣika categoriesṣe貹ṇa (अवक्षेपण) refers to one of the five kinds of Karma (action) in the Nyāya-Vaiśeṣika philosophy. According to Kaṇāda, karma (action) is of five kinds. According to Praśastapāda (Praśastapādabhāṣya), the action which is caused by gurutva, prayatna, ṃyDz and which is the cause of conjunction of the body with upper portion of the thing and disjunction with lower portion is called ٰܳṣe貹ṇa. ṣe貹ṇa is the cause of the conjunction and disjunction which are opposite of the ٰܳṣe貹ṇa. According to Varadarāja (Tārkikarakṣ), the non-inherent cause of the conjunction with lower space is ṣe貹ṇa. According to Annaṃbhaṭṭa (Tarkasaṃgraha), that is known as ṣe貹ṇa which is the cause of conjunction with the lower space.

Nyaya (न्या, nyaya) refers to a school of Hindu philosophy (astika), drawing its subject-matter from the Upanishads. The Nyaya philosophy is known for its theories on logic, methodology and epistemology, however, it is closely related with Vaisheshika in terms of metaphysics.
