Source: Wisdom Library: Brihat Samhita by Varahamihira础苍迟补谤颈办峁办别迟耻 (啶呧え啷嵿い啶班た啶曕啶粪啷囙い啷�) or simply Antarik峁 refers to the 鈥渆therial鈥� type of Ketus, according to the B峁沨atsa峁僪it膩 (chapter 11), an encyclopedic Sanskrit work written by Var膩hamihira mainly focusing on the science of ancient Indian astronomy astronomy (Jyoti峁).鈥擜ccordingly, 鈥淗aving examined the treatises of Garga, Par膩艣ara, Asita, Devala and many others on Ketus, I now proceed to give a clear account of the same. The reappearance or disappearance of the Ketus is not subject to astronomical calculations. The Ketus are of three kinds鈥攃elestial, etherial and terrestrial [i.e., 诲颈惫测补-补苍迟补谤颈办峁-产丑补耻尘补]. Ketus are luminous appearances resembling f铆re but without the power to consume objects鈥攖he glow worm, certain phosphorescent appearances, gems, precious stones and the like excepted鈥�.

Jyotisha (啶溹啶啶むた啶�, 箩测辞迟颈峁 or jyotish) refers to 鈥榓stronomy鈥� or 鈥淰edic astrology鈥� and represents the fifth of the six Vedangas (additional sciences to be studied along with the Vedas). Jyotisha concerns itself with the study and prediction of the movements of celestial bodies, in order to calculate the auspicious time for rituals and ceremonies.
