He is known as the lord of beginnings and is traditionally invoked first, not only by Ga峁嘺pati devotees, but also by devotees of any other god or goddess. At the beginning of a text, at the commencement of a classical dance performance or the opening song of a concert, even the initial shrine that is visited when one visits a temple, this is Ga峁噀艣a鈥檚 domain.
It is said that Lord 艢iva first worshipped Ga峁噀艣a before he fought with the demon Tripura; that Lord R膩ma first worshipped Ga峁噀艣a before he fought R膩va峁嘺; that 膧di艣e峁 first worshipped Ga峁噀艣a before he undertook to bear the entire earth on his back; that Indra first worshipped Ga峁嘺pati before he vanquished V峁泃ta; that Durga first worshipped Ga峁噀艣a before she killed Mahi艣膩sura; that Lord K峁涐梗峁嘺 first worshipped Ga峁嘺pati before he set out to absolve himself of a false charge (of murdering Satr膩jita); that Lord Vi峁ａ箛u first worshipped Ga峁噀艣a before he sought the three steps from Bali; that Lord Brahm膩 first worshipped Ga峁嘺pati before he began creation; and that Manmatha first worshipped Ga峁噀艣a before he commenced to charm humanity.
Ganapatya (啶椸ぞ啶｀お啶む啶�, 驳腻峁嘺辫补迟测补) represents a tradition of Hinduism where Ganesha is revered and worshipped as the prime deity (ishta-devata). Being a minor though influential movement, Ganapatya evovled, llike Shaktism and Shaivism, as a separate movement leaving behind a large body of literature.
